Welcome to the Global Sojourns' Giving Circle Update!

The catastrophe in Haiti
compels us to reach out and answer the call. Around the world people
are connecting to work together to bring about immediate and much
needed long-term relief to thousands of individuals in this struggling
nation.
It is in the spirit of
being connected in philanthropic giving that the Global Sojourns' Giving Circle
community finds its role. As members are drawn to the immediate visible
need in Haiti so,
too, are we joined together in this same spirit to continue the
support/partnership with the three organizations in Zambia and South Africa.
In this issue of the GSGC newsletter we will introduce you to
individuals who are newly connected to us. As we broaden our reach, we
strengthen the strands of this partnership web with new energy, skills
and meaningful encounters. It is a joy to watch our circle grow.
Sincerely,
Paige Hasson

Making a Difference Network
|
|
We introduce you
to Antony Ranjan, a new GSGC partner in our network who will serve as
eyes and ears on the ground in Livingstone
Antony works as an accountant at Moorse Rowland Firm in
Livingstone and is an already dedicated member of the community. In the
coming year, he will mentor Tusa Munyandi and Ray of Hope in accounting
and help us audit their books.
To read more about Antony,
how we connected with him and what role he will play, read Peter Macy's
write-up on the GSGC blog.

Book Club
|
|

The Denver GSGC Book Club has been very
successful and we would like to thank Professor Jean Scandlyn, Ph. D.
for leading the group. We are happy to report that the gatherings and
discussions helped inspire one of the members, Tina Eyre (middle in
photo) to return to school for a masters degree in international
development!

Quick Tips
|
- Have your
friends give a contribution to GSGC in lieu of gifts for your
birthday, anniversary or any other special occasion!
- Host a GSGC wine
tasting event. We have developed a "template" that will
help make the event easy to organize. This is a wonderful way to
have a get together with friends and educate them about Giving
Circles in general, and ours in particular.

You may have
seen authors Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn make the rounds on
Oprah with their book, Half the Sky, but we wholeheartedly
recommend you read this book for yourself. It is a major inspiration
for those investing in the education and support of women worldwide.
If there is enough interest in reading this book, we will
have a discussion/ conference call in the future. Contact Paige to let
her know your interest: morkh1@comcast.net

Naomi Hall
"I am pleased to be a member of the Giving Circle.
It is good to see and hear the reports of how our contributions are
being used. I am glad to help women in Africa
with micro loans. Also, to give girls the chance to go to school, even
to learn to dance. The doll project is especially appealing. I feel a
greater personal connection to the GSGC than to most other
organizations."
