Location: Gobi Desert, Mongolia
Best time to visit: June - October
Highlights: The Southern Gobi Desert is a cacophony of nature, blending expansive horizons, towering escarpments and spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
Years ago I saw photos of the Gobi Desert in National Geographic and was taken in by the expanse, beauty and wonderment of how the people survive in such an environment. Traveling there, I felt like I had stepped into one of these photos. The scenery was gorgeous, the open space a luxury, and the people were so warm and welcoming and as hardy as the article described.
If you love wilderness, I’d put this high on my list of places to visit.
